Mumboni, also known as Mesomana of the Moyo Maongera clan, possessed great spiritual powers and played a vital role in conveying important information to various places. Mumboni carried out these activities at this mountain until his death. The name Maongera (or Maungira) is believed to have originated from the echoes that emanate from the mountains when one sings. The Mumboni clan traces its origins back to the 16th century in a region known as Damba, which encompasses parts of present-day Chinhoyi and Makonde. However, the people who claim to have possessed the Makonde land are now landless, without chieftainship, and lack a headman-ship.
