In a historic move, the Modi government revoked Article 370 that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The government has also decided to bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories. Rajya Sabha has passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019. The Reorganisation Bill, introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah today in Parliament, proposed bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories-- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. While 125 votes came in the favour of the bill, 61 votes were against it. The approval of the bill has now pronounced Ladakh a separate Union Territory. The motion to pass the bill was first put through slip voting. While 125 votes in the favour of it, 61 votes against.
