The ancient Wagheshwar Temple is an approximately 1,000-year-old shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Famous as the "submerged temple", it sits in the backwaters of Pawna Lake near Lonavala. Built with black stone, it is visible only between February and June when water levels recede, before being completely swallowed by the monsoon The most defining feature of this temple is that it remains completely underwater for 8 to 9 months of the year. It only resurfaces during the peak summer months (typically March to May/June) when the reservoir's water level drops, revealing its ancient stone ruins before it gets swallowed by the lake again during the History & ArchitectureAncient Origins: Believed to date back to the Chalukya era (around 800 to 1,000 years old).
