Meet Toby- Working with this sweet surrendered pittie today who came into the shelter absolutely emaciated, covered in scars, heartworm positive and struggling. ❤️ Heartworm sounds scary, but it’s treatable and not something people should automatically fear. It’s spread through mosquito bites — not from dog to dog contact — and with proper treatment and rest, many dogs go on to live long, healthy lives. He’s already gaining weight, getting stronger, and his happy tail is finally healing too. (“Happy tail” happens when dogs wag their tails so hard against kennel walls that it repeatedly splits open.) Despite everything he’s been through, he still chooses love, connection and trust. Watching him slowly relax, regulate and feel safe through touch is such a reminder of how resilient these dogs are.
