One Dusty Road. God is calling....

The Story Behind "One Dusty Road" This song was born from the memory of our Vándorút journey. As young pilgrims, we felt God calling us to step out in faith. We travelled with almost nothing—just the clothes we wore, a small bag on our shoulder, and trust in God's providence. We carried no money, only faith, and the desire to follow where He would lead us. For seven days we walked the Vándorút. We walked dusty roads, crossed villages, knocked on open doors, and met people whose kindness reflected God's love. In the name of God, we blessed the doorways with holy oil. Again and again, we witnessed something beautiful. As the doorway was blessed, people seemed to change. Tired eyes began to smile, hearts opened, and we could feel God's Spirit filling the house. Joy, peace, and hope entered with Him. A glass of water offered to a weary traveller became a blessing. A smile became a gift. An open door became a home. But the journey was not always easy. Sometimes we walked under the burning summer sun, in temperatures close to 40°C. There were days when we met nobody for hours. No cars. No villages. No shade. Only the dusty road stretching before us. One day we found a water well. We ran to it full of hope, only to discover that it had completely dried up. There was not a drop of water left. I was tired, thirsty, frustrated, and angry. I remember kicking the well in disappointment, while my friend simply sat in the grass laughing at me. At that moment, I could not understand why God had led us there. Yet we continued walking. Five kilometres later, we found another well. This one was full of fresh water. I drank, washed my face, and felt happier than I can describe. What seemed like a disappointment became a lesson in trust. There were other moments that stayed with us forever. Sometimes we arrived at a house and saw large dogs running toward us. Not one dog, but two or three big guard dogs that looked frightening from a distance. Yet when we entered the property, they did not bark at us or threaten us. Instead, they came to us with wagging tails, wanting to play and be petted. The owners were often shocked. "How did you get in here?" they asked. "Those dogs are dangerous. They don't let strangers come near the house." We looked at the dogs in surprise and replied, "Those dogs?" Because by then they were already playing around us like old friends. Moments like these reminded us that God was walking ahead of us. Doors opened. Hearts opened. Even the dogs seemed to know that we came in peace. Again and again, we experienced things that we could not explain. It felt as if God's Spirit had arrived before we did, preparing the way. Looking back now, we understand that the Vándorút was about much more than walking. It was about trust, friendship, faith, hospitality, and discovering God in ordinary people and ordinary places. One dusty road. One open door. One glass of water. One blessing. And God's Spirit filled the house.
