In this video, I share with you a bit of history and places you can't miss in Istanbul. Original Name: Cistern of Philoxenos (named after the Roman senator whose palace was nearby). Turkish Name: Binbirdirek Sarnıcı (literally meaning "Cistern of a Thousand and One Columns"). Age/Date: Built in the 4th or 5th century AD, during the Byzantine period. It is one of the oldest cisterns in Istanbul. Location: Located in the Sultanahmet district, between the Forum of Constantine and the Hippodrome. Structure: It is the second largest cistern in Istanbul. It is supported by 224 marble columns (in two overlapping sections). Current Use: Currently, it is dry and used as a museum, hosting various cultural events such as exhibitions and concerts.
