For five years, filmmaker Fanny Paloma investigated land grabbing by subsidiaries of the Bolloré Group in Cambodia, Cameroon, and France. Her film sheds light on peasant communities deprived of their ancestral lands for the benefit of industrial plantations, in a context of economic neocolonialism where multinationals and states are intertwined. The documentary notably follows the legal battles waged by hundreds of plaintiffs, who face immense obstacles: lack of identity documents, visa refusals, and lengthy and complex procedures. Lawyer Fiodor Rilov emphasizes a central strategy: establishing the direct responsibility of multinational corporations rather than states. A key step was taken with the Socfin court order compelling them to provide internal documents that could prove Bolloré's decisive role. Beyond the investigation, the film adopts a sensitive approach, focusing on the lives and voices of the affected communities, rather than a simple indictment. Despite the production and distribution challenges inherent in the subject matter, the film is finding its audience through independent and activist networks. No other channel has had the courage to broadcast "Land Plunderers," a powerful documentary that implicates the Bolloré Group.
