A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE OCD SON OF INDONESIA: The presence of OCD priests in Indonesia. In 1980, two OCD priests, Father Basilius, OCD, and Father Yustinus, OCD, came to Indonesia to explore the possibility of opening a new mission field outside India. Their original destination was Manado (North Sulawesi), not Flores. Coincidentally, in Jakarta, they met the Archbishop of Ende, Bishop Donatus Djagom, SVD. They both felt that opening a new mission in Flores was a good fit and decided not to continue their journey to Manado. On August 15, 1982, as a continuation of an agreement between the Archbishop of Ende and the OCD Provincial in Kerala, India, two priests arrived in Indonesia to manage a parish in Bajawa: Fr. John Britto, OCD, and Fr. Thomas Kallor, OCD. The two priests arrived in Bajawa in early January 1984. It should be noted that Fr. John and Fr. Thom arrived in Indonesia on August 18, 1982 (in the book "Memories of St. Joseph's Bajawa Parish"). They then spent 18 months in Ritapiret to study Indonesian and 6 months in Mataloko. Fr. John Britto, OCD, was born in Panaikulum, Kerala, on May 31, 1931. He was ordained a priest on March 14, 1966. While in Indonesia, he served as Pastor of St. Joseph's Bajawa Parish (1984–1993), and he also served as Superior of the OCD Bogenga Monastery that same year. He died in India on 17 October 2001. P. Thomas Kallor, OCD was born in Aluva, Kerala, 02 April 1942. He was ordained a priest on 19 December 1968. While in Indonesia he was an assistant priest / associate pastor at St. Yosef Bajawa. He is also a Master candidate for priests at Bogenga Monastery. P. Thom died in Jakarta on January 30, 2004, and his body was sent to Bajawa and buried at the OCD Bogenga Monastery. In their book "Saints of Carmel," Fathers John and Thom chronicle the lives of Carmelite saints, including Blessed Father Dionisius and Blessed Brother Redemptus, OCD, who were martyred in Aceh in 1638. In a passage from the introduction to the OCD workbook, Fathers John and Thom write: "We, the Carmelite priests of the OCD, feel very happy to rediscover the traces of our brothers, Martyrs Father Dionisius and Brother Redemptus, who came to Indonesia from Goa (India) in 1638. God led us to find their traces in 1982 when we first arrived in Indonesia, and since 1984 we have worked in the care of a parish in Bajawa, Archdiocese of Ende, Flores, and later founded a monastery.
