Traveling in a motorhome is truly an adventure. Although our motorhome is spacious and has basic amenities, there are external conditions that greatly affect your routine and trip. (The 10-week quarantine in Texas delayed our route, the weather, and the holiday season complicated things financially and logistically.) Navigating the pandemic safely, finding camping spots, navigating weather conditions (extreme heat) and natural disasters (tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, etc.) has been very exhausting and draining. Add to that having to deal with emergency repairs while being backed up with thousands of things and constantly on the move... the problems add up, creating a seemingly unstoppable snowball. We knew we needed to relax and unwind, but we couldn't find the time or place to do it. We left Oceana with the idea of ​​spending a few days boondocking at the Quinault Casino. We already had a reservation at Mount Hood, but due to the wildfires, we had to cancel it. We barely made it to Cannon Beach. This small coastal town is located on the Pacific Northwest coast of Oregon, 80 miles west. from Portland and 25 miles south of Astoria. In 2013, National Geographic named it one of the 100 most beautiful places in the world, so we didn't want to miss it for anything! We'd already canceled so many places, and this wouldn't be another one. Cannon Beach is surrounded by forests, ocean beaches, rivers, and the Oregon Coast Mountains. Its main attraction is Haystack Rock, a giant natural monolith! Locals say Haystack Rock is the third largest monolith in the world, but there's no official information to confirm this. Beyond this inaccurate fact, this gigantic rock is the icon of this beach, and without a doubt what makes it one of the most visited places by tourists from the United States and around the world. We would have loved to get closer, but the tide was high. Seeing this gigantic rock up close, home to starfish, crabs, puffins, and other seabirds, must be a unique experience! A way to experience it Haystack Rock is located at Tolovana Wayside Park, where you can park and walk along the beach. Being able to park the RV less than 50 meters from the beach was great. Although it was cold and cloudy, and we only spent a few hours there, we fell in love with this beach, and we'll definitely make plans to return. Mixed feelings. Living on wheels isn't easy, but having the opportunity to visit places like this is what makes it worthwhile.
