Live Aid: Status Quo frontman reflects on opening iconic event 40 years on | LBC

Live Aid went down in history for the star-studded line-up, with the show raising money to relieve the Ethiopian famine. On the 40th anniversary of Live Aid, Status Quo frontman Francis Rossi speaks to Henry Riley about what it was like to open the show in London. Rossi explains how Bob Geldof 'badgered' the band to take part in the concert, and how they didn't expect it to be 'as important or as big' as it was. He shares memories of the day, including being put in a headlock by Freddie Mercury, falling off a collapsing table with David Bowie, and 'getting the hump' with Elvis Costello in the canteen. Rossi also looks back at whether the fundraising efforts were successful and whether such an event could happen again.
