The idea is simple, but extremely necessary: ✅ The PLC commands the motor to shut down. ✅ The output of the contactor or inverter is deactivated. ✅ But the system needs to confirm if the equipment has actually stopped. Because in many cases, even after the shutdown command, the motor may still continue rotating due to: mechanical inertia, coupled load, contactor failure, inverter still in deceleration ramp, mechanical feedback of the process. In this lesson, we will use a logic where, after the stop command, the PLC waits a while and checks for a confirmation signal, such as: rotation sensor, encoder, zero-speed feedback from the inverter, inductive sensor on the shaft, auxiliary brake contact. If the real stop is not confirmed within the expected time, the system goes into alarm and blocks the resumption. This is the type of logic that shows that automation is not just about turning outputs on and off.
