Karen, an S7 pilot and arguably the most recognizable person on the Russian internet, shared his journey into the profession—and it wasn't easy at all. After graduating from academy, he wasn't accepted by airlines, so to stay close to airplanes, he worked at the check-in counter, applied for a plumbing job, and retrained as a dispatcher. Then came the call from S7. We chatted like colleagues: how his blog came to be, why the company is against cockpit filming, how he helps people overcome their fear of flying, and what it feels like when an engine fails on a real flight.
