JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - The Head of the UGM Student Union, Mesa, emphasized that the student movement will not stop as long as various issues deemed to violate the sense of justice remain unresolved. When asked how long students will continue to take to the streets in response to public concerns, Mesa stated that the action will continue until justice is truly achieved. Mesa believes that demonstrations will continue to be an option if the government does not show real improvements to the issues raised by the public. According to Mesa, the public will continue to protest if the government's statements are limited to rhetoric. Mesa even said that society is now increasingly immune to efforts that only stifle criticism without addressing the underlying issues. However, social media activist Ade Armando expressed a different view. He believes the current wave of student demonstrations will not develop into a large-scale movement like the 1998 Reformation. Instead of escalating the demonstrations, Ade hopes that communication between students, the government, and the House of Representatives (DPR) can be strengthened so that various issues can be resolved through dialogue.
