◆Video Title [Punch-kun's Diary 🐵] Punch gets pushed into the pond 😖; a monkey sliding down the monkey mountain, a master of bipedal walking, and capturing the moment Punch enters the enclosure during snack time — Ichikawa City Zoo & Botanical Garden Filmed on the afternoon of July 7, 2026. I stuck around until 3:00 PM just to catch "Punch Time" (lol). I’ve been following the growth of Punch-kun at the Ichikawa City Zoo & Botanical Garden. Since I visit frequently, I usually film from the back rather than the front row. I watch Punch-kun through the gaps in the crowd. Of course, if the place is completely empty, I’ll watch from the front row, but otherwise, I stay in the back. I watch from the back during feeding time, too. Punch-kun is a Japanese macaque born on July 26, 2025. He began living on the monkey mountain at the Ichikawa City Zoo & Botanical Garden on January 19, 2026. He does have a mother, but due to the fact that it was her first birth and the summer heat, she ended up abandoning him. Keepers raised Punch-kun initially since he couldn't survive on his own, but they decided that keeping him entirely hand-reared wouldn't be best for him in the long run; so, on January 19, 2026, they released him onto the monkey mountain to see how he would fare. When he first arrived, he was bullied by various older monkeys but endured it bravely; watching him grow little by little is truly inspiring and heartwarming. As for the orangutan plush toy Punch-kun carries (nicknamed "Oran-Mama"): Japanese macaques, like humans, grow up being raised by their mothers, and the lack of a mother can cause stress. When keepers gave him an IKEA orangutan plushie, he started hugging it. In the past, he was given a Rilakkuma plushie and seemed to hug it, believing it was his mother—or perhaps a friend. However, since that other ape (Otome-chan) seemed to let go of her plush toy and become independent around the age of one year and two months, Punch-kun might also move on from his "orangutan mom" in a few months. By the way, Otome-chan is actually at the same zoo! She became a global sensation and a huge hit thanks to the adorable sight of her clutching her orangutan plushie. Let’s all keep a close watch on Punch-kun together!
