How to Organize Your Memory Palace Networks... So They're UNFORGETTABLE
Have you ever worried that your Memory Palace efforts will go to waste because you can't remember... What you remembered? Never fear. It's fun and easy to use the Memory Palace technique and all the more so when you use it correctly. As Richard Baker framed the question: "I can use memory techniques to remember lists of information regarding different topics, to-do lists of different categories, or have more than one memory palace location that might have different sub-locations or serve a different purpose. So I am no longer relying on passive brain processes to store this information. But I am still relying on passive brain processes to remember what I have learned. By indexing, I mean a way to build a reference of what you have in your memory so you won't forget that either. If I have a useful list of concepts memorized in case I have to survive in the wilderness, but don't have some kind of index to remember that I have remembered that list in the first place, I might not remember that I have that list remembered. Or I might have a good memory of all the stuff I stored in a given memory palace/location, but if I eventually have 20 memory palaces and forget the "entry point" to one of them, I might not be able to get back to that string of connections that leads me to remember all the stuff in that palace except by accident. Right now I'm just trying to have a master list of lists to remind me of the things I've built, but it feels convoluted and like it will get too long soon and I was wondering if there were other approaches that were more elegant." I think it's a great question and I hope my answer sets Richard's mind at ease AND yours. The fact of the matter is that the best way to get results from the Memory Palace technique is to dive in and start using them. And I hope today's explanation helps you do that.
