My daughter and her family came to visit. We picked ostrich fern with my grandchildren, and made tempura with wild vegetables (including wild grape sprouts, Kalopanax septemlobus, and wild udo) that my daughter had gathered from the mountain lodge, and ate it with soba noodles. We also went to see the clusters of mountain peonies at Tsudoi-no-Sato. Japanese primroses, Glaucidium palmatum, and Cypripedium macranthos were in bloom. The sight of the mountainside covered in blooming mountain peonies, with their short flowering period, was truly moving. The deck railing was rotting, so I bought some lumber and repaired it.
