Somnath Corridor started development in indias first jyotirlinga Somnath located in Gujarat. The administration has identified 384 properties for acquisition, covering approximately 25,000 square meters around the temple area. The list includes around 70 hotels and guesthouses, several community halls and jamaatkhanas belonging to various communities, including Lohana, Bhoi, Rajput, Mansuri, and Patni Samaj, more than 20 shops, and about 250 residential houses from Hindu and Muslim families. The Somnath Temple corridor promises to be a grand project following the footsteps of other famous temple corridors in India. However, the current opaque process and heavy impact on residents have created a volatile situation. Resolving this requires transparent dialogue, fair compensation, and a balance between heritage development and protecting the rights and livelihoods of thousands of Somnath’s families.
