In addition to valuing the spiritual world, for the U'wa, Guna Dule, and Pasto peoples, one of the most important aspects of their conception of Buen Vivir is a proper material and spiritual relationship with Mother Earth, the giver of life and the foundation of the existence of all elements of the material world. In this generic sense, territories are not only geographical spaces with natural resources, but also sacred spaces with political organization, their own authority, their own language, and a complex set of cultural knowledge and practices.
