The Rich History of the Ruy Lopez | Climbing the Rating Ladder vs. 2074
In this continuation of the "Climbing the Rating Ladder" series I take on players of various ratings levels while pointing out typical mistakes and spots for improvement along the way (possibly my own!? :)). Here I commentate a 10+0 game against a player rated 2074 on Chess.com. The Ruy Lopez (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5) has one of the finest pedigrees in the chess opening realm, and in this game, via a Nimzowitsch Defense move order (1.e4 Nc6), I aim for the Flohr-Zaitsev System of the Closed Ruy Lopez (that's a mouthful! :)). Nuances abound in this fascinating opening, but we can't lose sight of the basics, such as capture sequences and the relative value of attackers and defenders!
