Masterclass with professor Esko Laine in which they work on the second movement of Sergey Koussevitzky's Double bass concerto in F sharp minor op 3tr. This masterclass took place at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, Madrid 2004. Andante Abstract: At the beginning of class, Professor Esko Laine talks about phrasing, bow direction, and fingering aspects of the beginning of movement. They change some fingerings so that it is more natural to play and the note is in tune, as it is not convenient to do a “technical” fingering. The passage being worked on can be played with a “flageolet” timbre. It is important not to delay and to be very conscious of the tuning at all times. Any fingering that we decide to do must be safe in order to control the passage.
