The final in Sydney 2000 took that even further. Side by side, in lanes 4 and 5, teams USA and Australia as the strongest contenders for the Gold medal. The USA had Gary Hall to finish the relay; Australia had Ian Thorpe as its final swimmer. And an arena packed with Australian supporters. And that wouldn't be the only dispute to look at.
