Among these controls is the illumination of the needles and numbers for clear nighttime visibility. It's very common for the original dashboard light bulbs to burn out, and that's exactly what we'll discuss today. The car I'll use as an example is a 2004 Civic, which has the same dashboard from 2001 to 2006. Of course, you'll first need to remove the protective plastic covers and then remove the dashboard to access the rear where the lights are located. This dashboard has 12V incandescent bulbs with 3W of power. It's not very common to find bulbs with this wattage, but 2W bulbs are also compatible. A particularity of this 2001 to 2006 Civic dashboard is that the dedicated odometer light bulb has a separate electrical circuit from the others, and this circuit often malfunctions. One way to solve this problem is to send the dashboard to a company that specializes in dashboard repairs for maintenance and then reinstallation. Another option, and the one I chose in this case, was to replace the original installation with the power supplied by the other dashboard light bulbs, which work perfectly. Without compromising anything on the dashboard itself, the only adjustment was soldering two wires between the odometer bulb and the nearest dashboard light bulb. This restored the odometer illumination, and besides the maintenance cost being much lower, the service can be performed two days ahead of schedule, avoiding the need to send the dashboard to another professional. This service can cost you R$100 in labor plus the cost of the bulbs.
