What is most concerning, according to the governor, is that the Chilean Meteorological Directorate forecasts up to 180 millimeters of rain in La Serena and Coquimbo, while the region's annual average is 60 millimeters. "In four days, we could see what falls in three years," he explained. "In my 20 years working here, I've never seen a situation like the one we're facing now," the governor stated, noting that one of the problems is the region's degraded soil due to the drought.
