PTS Ep. 102 - 1913 Victor Victrola VV-XI Repair Part 1
We introduced this 103 year old phonograph a few weeks ago. After some extensive research (and finally finding time to get to it) Chris is ready to embark on the repair journey. In this video Chris will pull the motor and have a preliminary look at it to see if he can diagnose the issue at hand. This is a Victor Victrola VV-XI from 1913. Its serial number is 57627. It plays 78 rpm records. It operates by cranking a spring and releasing a brake. The sound is reproduced with a steel needle and a sound box which is attached to the horn via the tonearm. The needles must be changed with every record! There are no electronics in this piece. It currently does not crank. We believe it's due to a broken spring based on symptoms. The spring can be replaced however it is dangerous and care must be taken when doing so. We will have more videos up on this repair as we work on it. If you have any suggestions for videos on this channel, please feel free to leave them in the comments below. We'd love to hear from you!
