The fear of the Lord is an ongoing attitude of my heart that moves me to choose over and over again to obey God when it’s easier to do something else. The greatest evidence of the fear of God is complete obedience to God. Want to be wise, make better decisions, and get things right before you ever get them wrong? This is where you start. In their blind conceit, they cannot see how wicked they really are. | Psalm 36, v. 1-2 • To fear God is to love and respect him. • There’s nothing you can do to make God love you any more or less than he already does. • Because of sin, we stand guilty before a holy God, desperately in need of a savior. • The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. | Proverbs 9, v.10 • The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death. | Proverbs 14, v. 27 • True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life. | Proverbs 22, v.4 • Don’t lay a hand on the boy! The angel said. Do not hurt him in any way; for now, I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son. | Genesis 22, v.12 • Your love and respect are best expressed in your decision to withhold nothing from him. • God takes full responsibility for the life that is wholly devoted to him. • There’s no greater thing you can do with your only life than living it in total devotion to Jesus. • Question 1: In what area of your life are you withholding something from God? • Question 2: What are you going to do about it? • Question 3: Who do you need to tell so that they can help? • Prayer of Surrender: Father, today, I surrender completely to the control of Your Spirit in my life. I surrender my pride, my selfish ambitions, my fears, my anxiety, my control issues. I surrender my thoughts, desires, hands, what I do, my time, resources, and words. Please help me know your love deeply today and act out of love for you and others. Please help me see everything you want me to do, and give me the courage and grace to carry it out. In Jesus’ name.
