Some losses are beyond comprehension, and yet Rachel Goldberg-Polin has found a way to put hers into words. I sat down with Rachel, the mother of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who was kidnapped from the Nova Music Festival on October 7th, 2023 and held hostage in Gaza for 330 days before being executed, to talk about her stunning, devastating new book When We See You Again. We talked about what it was like to write through the most unimaginable grief, why she calls it "elegant vomit," and the act of remembering Hersh in such exquisite detail that you feel like you know him by the end. She shared what she learned about his final months in captivity, the moment she heard his voice had reached him in Gaza, and how her deep Jewish faith has both sustained and challenged her.
