Plenary #1, June 8, 2021: Welcome & Opening Reflections from Fr. Arturo Sosa, S.J. & respondents
Andria Wisler, Executive Director of the Center for Social Justice, Research, Teaching & Service at Georgetown University and local host for this virtual gathering, welcomes participants to the first live premiere of our virtual gathering. She introduces Father Mark Bosco, Vice President for Mission & Ministry at Georgetown University who offers a blessing on gathering. President John J. DeGioia offers introductory remarks for our gathering. Next, we are grateful that we will hear from the thirty-first and present Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Father Arturo Marcelino Sosa Abascal, S.J.. In his remarks, Father Sosa recognizes the fruitful trajectory of the Commitment to Justice Conferences over the past twenty years, and offers inspiration and an invitation for us to use the Universal Apostolic Preferences as guideposts for how we proceed. Responses and additional insights are provided by leaders in the AJCU network Debra Mooney (Xavier University), Rob Kelly (Loyola University Maryland), and Margaret Freije (College of the Holy Cross), calling us forward in how we sustain ourselves for the ongoing work of justice, how we listen to all the voices in our community, and how we accompany students to a more hope-filled future.
