This discourse, the idea that there are attitudes and behaviors that are not done to have an end in themselves, but to feed a representation of oneself more than oneself, an image with which one wishes to be associated and which matters more than the supposed reality, has increasingly infiltrated digital content and commentary. But what does it mean to perform? And what, in fact, can we still call ‘non-performance’, in an era where we see the world more through the distorted lenses of an iPhone than with our own eyes?
