What If Ned Stark Joined Robert’s Court From The Beginning? Let's explore the depths of it in the video. Jon Arryn finds his ward seated by a rock underneath the weirwood in the Red Keep’s Godswoods. It is the place for those who still worship the Old Gods to clear their mind, and it was one thing he never begrudged Ned. He certainly cannot blame him for seeking solace in it now after what they had just witnessed in the throne room earlier. It is also why he must seek his ward out. Placing a hand on his shoulder, Jon Arryn eases himself up on the rock beside him. Jon Arryn: I thought I would find you here. Ned: The sight of this tree calms me. It gives me a place to think and to clear my head. Jon Arryn: Yes, I can’t blame you there. I would like to clear my mind of what I just saw as well. Ned: I wouldn’t. I want to remember that and remember what the Lannisters are capable of. Those were children, my lord. Children. And they were butchered without mercy like common criminals. And Lord Tywin, he barely even blinked when he saw their corpses. Jon Arryn: Yes, it was difficult, Ned. I am sick to my stomach, and the sight of Rhaenys and Aegon’s bodies will haunt my nightmares for years to come. Believe me, you need to lecture me. Ned: Apologies, I suppose I am weary after having to do the same to Robert. Jon Arryn: Robert simply needs to process what he saw. Your friend finds himself in an unenviable position as king. Like it or not, the Targaryens are threats to his throne, children or not, and he understood that fact. I do not claim it is right, and I certainly did not wish for something like that to befall them. But it was a difficult question that I do not think he wanted to answer. Ned: I don’t care if they were threats; they were children, my lord. So what if they were the royal family? Do we simply forgive the Lannisters for what they did? We forgive and forget and continue allying as if nothing happened? Jon Arryn: Tywin Lannister has the largest undeclared army. He has the wealth of Casterly Rock. That is gold we desperately need to rebuild the Riverlands and the other regions that have been ravaged by this war. He knows this and seeks to make himself useful. It is the way of things, I’m afraid. I hate that I cannot do more. Believe me, I would have gladly signed off on nay proposal to execute the Mountain or send the Kingslayer to the Wall. Ned: Neither of which would have stopped Tywin. Jon Arryn: No, it certainly would not. But that is why I was thinking. I need you here with me, Ned. I raised you for the better part of a decade, my boy. I taught you to never shirk from your duty. And perhaps it is why you should serve here in court. Ned: Here in the capital? But I have no position in court. Jon Arryn: I have no doubt Robert will find you one. Besides, you serve a more important task than an official courtier. Your job is to guide Robert as he begins his rule. You are one of the few men he will listen to, and more importantly, you are one of the few who can help keep Lannister influence in check. Ned: Lord Arryn- Jon Arryn: Ned, I know I am asking much from you. However, this is a difficult task ahead of us, and we cannot turn a blind eye. I know you have your misgivings and your disagreements with Robert, but that is why I need you. Someone who will represent what is best for the realm instead of advancing their own career. Ned doesn’t answer right away. He still isn’t sure and simply promises he will consider it and give him an answer soon. Jon Arryn doesn’t say anything, pursing his lips, but then offers a smile and walks off. However, the young Lord of Winterfell’s mind is elsewhere. He is already planning what to do regarding Lyanna. He rides out with a handful of companions to the Tower of Joy, where he intends to free his sister. There, he encounters the Kingsguard, and what happens next is not clear to anyone but the young lord. What he says is that he battles the Kingsgaurd and manages to defeat them, but all of his comrades, save for Howland Reed, are slain. There, he finds Lyanna close to death and manages to hear her last words before she dies. #gameofthrones #gameofthroneswhatif #whatif
