'MATLOCK thru trip' Derbyshire Caving

'NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED' A recent caving trip with the Peak Caving Club, Dropping a tight shaft filled with spiders/spider eggs we traveled along a rake passing through old mine working where lead and flour spar were mined. We were recently here digging it out as silt from the river Derwent had caused a blockage making the thru trip impassible, after the club spent nights digging away the trip was back on the cards. There are still other bits that require digging out each visit due to the river passing through moving sedement. This trip also includes Derbyshires longest coffin level, a back braking stoop of over 360m before you emerge from the sough into an unlikely residential area. As the title reads this is a trip not for the faint hearted. 𝙒𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙤 𝙘𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜? Peak Caving Club is a Derbyshire based caving club with members from all over the UK. Our community (now over 1000 strong and growing!) welcomes both new and experienced cavers providing opportunities to learn, share and enjoy the underground spaces beneath our feet safely. We host trips every weekend and plenty midweek around the Derbyshire area to keep our members busy. There's also regular trips throughout the year taking us to hotspot caving locations across the UK such as the Yorkshire Dales, Wales, the Mendips and many more.
