Leucemia linfoblastica acuta: nuove prospettive che migliorano la vita dei pazienti – prima parte
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a rare cancer that develops in the blood and bone marrow. In Europe, a total of 7,000 cases of ALL are diagnosed each year, with peaks occurring in two distinct age groups. The first peak occurs between the ages of 2 and 5, while the second occurs around age 50. In Italy, approximately 800 new cases are estimated among adults and children. Adults with newly diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) may soon benefit from a new standard of care. This encouraging news comes from the results of the E1910 clinical trial, recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), which demonstrate that in patients with Ph-negative ALL with no detectable disease (MRD negative) after initial treatment, the addition of the bispecific antibody blinatumomab to consolidation chemotherapy significantly increases survival. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia and how immunotherapy is revolutionizing the treatment of this disease are discussed in this two-part video interview with Robin Foà, Professor Emeritus of Hematology at Sapienza University of Rome. In this first part, Professor Foà explains what acute lymphoblastic leukemia is, how it manifests, and how its treatment is changing thanks to new therapies. #hematology #tumors #diseases #leukemia #immunotherapy
