This week Monica Morales introduces us to Sharon Wright, a beloved Bronx grandmother, entrepreneur, and community champion whose life was turned upside down after discovering a lump in her breast and receiving a breast cancer diagnosis. Known throughout Co-Op City for preparing and delivering delicious Caribbean meals to seniors, schools, and neighbors in need, Sharon's absence was felt immediately by the community she has spent years serving. Sharon shares her powerful story of resilience, determination, and survival as she navigated chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation treatment. Alongside Sharon is Dr. Lili Zhang, Director of Cardio-Oncology at Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center, who explains how cancer treatments can affect the heart and why early detection and monitoring are critical. Through Montefiore Einstein's innovative cardio-oncology program, oncologists and cardiologists work together to protect patients' heart health while fighting cancer. Today, Sharon is cancer-free and preparing to celebrate life with more than 200 family members, friends, nurses, and supporters. Her story is a reminder that with expert care, community support, and perseverance, it is possible not only to survive cancer but to thrive beyond it.
