第75回　療育のススメ①　療育の目的は「生活上の困難さを減らす」こと

The true purpose of developmental support is not to "catch up on developmental delays," but rather to reduce the "difficulties in daily life" that arise from the child's unique characteristics through environmental adjustments and motor development support. These difficulties include: ① Hypersensitivity to sensory stimuli ② Difficulty controlling attention and concentration ③ Communication characteristics ④ Weakness in executive function While it's often assumed that all children diagnosed with developmental disorders simply "develop slowly," it's important to understand that, as the diagnosis of "neurodevelopmental disorder" suggests, difficulties arise in acquiring skills and patterns necessary for daily life due to characteristics of neurotransmission from the brain. Because of various characteristics in how the brain processes information, skills acquired according to developmental stages, such as reading and writing methods and building relationships with friends, may be delayed or become more significant. This can result in "difficulties in living." Activating Proprioception It is crucial to activate the ability of muscles, joints, and tendons (muscle spindles and tendon spindles) to sense and adjust the body's position, movement, and force. This is essential for adjusting force, motor control, posture maintenance, understanding body image, and maintaining balance, enabling smooth daily activities. This highlights the importance of having ample opportunities to develop balance through physical movement during infancy and early childhood, and learning how to use the body through experience. For this reason, I continue to share information about exercise therapy. I want many people to know that exercise is a viable option. Each exercise is introduced in the seminar.
