NYONYORAT ORUNG DA'AN "The Sacred Farewell to The Departed" ll Fasilitasi Pemajuan Kebudayaan

Amidst the diverse Dayak tribes in West Kalimantan, the Orung Da'an Dayak community in Tilung Hamlet, Nanga Raun Village, Kalis District, Kapuas Hulu Regency, continues to uphold their ancestral traditions, passed down through generations. One such tradition is Nyonyorot, a traditional ceremony to remove taboos, steeped in spiritual values, togetherness, and respect for those who have passed away. This ritual features a series of sacred processes, from the sounding of the gong to signal the start of the ceremony, the mepas ritual, the search for belian wood to erect the toras pole, to the noria dance performed collectively by the community. Each stage carries profound meaning, symbolizing self-purification, the release of taboos, and the hope for a better life for the family and community. More than just a traditional ceremony, Nyonyorot reflects the Orung Da'an Dayak community's view of life, which views death not as the end, but as part of a spiritual journey toward a new life. Through this ritual documentation, the film attempts to capture the historical values, philosophy, and local wisdom contained within it, while simultaneously introducing the rich culture of the Orung Da'an Dayak to a wider audience so that it remains preserved and not lost to the times. --- Kapuas Hulu --- Also reach us on Instagram: bpkebudayaan_kalbar Facebook: Bpkebudayaan Kalbar #kalimantan #kalimantanbarat #dayak #orungdaan #kapuashulu #culture #death #sacred
