Chaos On The Roads - Huge Dump in Whistler

There is a general rule around British Columbia, when it snows in Vancouver all hell breaks loose. Well, recently we've been getting some Arctic outflows pushing down and bringing with them some really cold weather. Just before the high pressure outflow came down it dropped off a bunch of snow all the way along the sea to sky corridor, causing the highway to turn into a mess. Over a half dozen vehicles were scattered over the highway on the drive up, more often than not having the wrong tires. Going was slow and what normally took about an hour was just over 2 1/2. However traffic, though slow, was moving and we got to the mountain to find it quiet for a powder day. Both parking and upload lines were mooted and we headed on up. A low base (less than 1 meter at this point) means certain doom for your snowboard unless you take precautions. My Korua Shapes Transition Finder is currently having a huge core shot fixed from the day before, so underprepared on the Lib Tech T.Rice Pro in conditions like this, but we have back up. Andreas with his 176cm Gentemstick has one of the longest noses out there and made it easy to traverse the flat sections and get the powder. Be aware if you are coming to Whistler soon the snow base is still quiet shallow and will require a few more storms coming through before things really start to settle.
