The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is set to commence exploratory drilling in Baruipur, located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, following promising geological assessments. Preliminary surveys conducted over the past three years suggest the presence of oil and natural gas reserves in the region. The drilling operations will be centered in the Begampur area, approximately 1.5 kilometers from the nearest residential locality. ONGC has secured land from local farmers, compensating them with ₹2 lakh each, and is currently constructing access roads and infrastructure to facilitate the transportation of heavy drilling equipment, including the rig machine. The company has expressed strong confidence—reportedly 100%—in the potential discovery of hydrocarbons in this area.
