BTAC 2025 William Larue Weller Has Now Entered the Chat For Whiskey of the Year!

If you're a whiskey lover, there's no doubt this is probably your favorite time of year - allocation season. Some people get lucky - maybe you're a really good, loyal customer to a particular store and have built that relationship; maybe you win a lottery; maybe you camp out; and maybe you say F-it and just hit the secondary market. And maybe you do none of that and are perfectly content on sipping affordable, readily available whiskey - which is totally fine too! This year, I really wanted the hazmat George T. Stagg; as does everyone else. During my 6+ year whiskey journey, I've tried not to be greedy and leave fun, allocated things for other people to enjoy. Could've I had the GTS this year? Yeah, I could have. But, to be fair, since I got the GTS last year, I let my buddy have it. So, I was lucky enough to snag the William Larue Weller. Am I still going to get the GTS? Yep! But I know it'll cost me. So, how 'bout the WLW!?!? This year's release is a blend of 12, 14, and 15 year wheated Buffalo Trace mashbill, with an official age statement of 12 years, 7 months. It tips the proof chart at 129. Did I make a mistake by not swiping the GTS out from under my buddy's nose? Let's find out! 👃🏻On the nose: Cherry; loads of cherry! Dehydrated cherries, cherry wood, and cherry pipe tobacco. Vanilla. Oak. Leather. Careful; there's no way this is 129 proof. The nose is OUT OF THIS WORLD! 👅 On the palate: Oh, there's the proof! Hits hard and goes with more cherry. Woodsy - cherry wood & oak. Leather. The cherry pipe tobacco note is more prevalent on the palate (for me) vs. the nose. Overbaked cherry pie with vanilla icing. Palate continued to get better and more complex as it sat in our glass. 🏁 Finish: Long. Sweet, slightly dry. Oak and cherry wood. Perfect end to a delicious pour. With an SRP of 💲1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ish, this is unbelievably good. However, for what this is going for right now on secondary (💲1️⃣2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ish), I say this.... To some people, it might be worth it. Not to me, but some. My personal feeling is this: If you have the opportunity to get this for under 💲6️⃣0️⃣0️⃣, and your budget allows, I'm going to give it a recommend.
