The thing people say the second nobody from that state is in the room. Because a stereotype almost never tells you the truth about a place. It tells you exactly who's afraid of it, who's jealous of it, and who once got embarrassed there and never forgave it. Florida isn't crazier than anywhere else. It just hands you the police report the same afternoon. Ohio isn't cursed. It's too statistically average to survive the internet. Alabama and West Virginia weren't freaks. They were poor and isolated and easy to laugh at from a connecting flight. So we did the thing everyone thinks and nobody says out loud.
