Departure Chandelier - Satan Soldier Of Fortune :: Árstíðir Lífsins - Hermalausaz Review

For his first Heavy Metallurgy review of 2024, Kellen (Killing for Company) tackles the international trio, Departure Chandelier as he unveils their appreciation for the French LLN black metal aesthetic by way of Napoleonic worship on their 2nd full-length album, Satan Soldier of Fortune. Perhaps these are odd bedfellows, but their synth soaked ferocity and simplistic approach to memorable riffage is sure to make an impression. For his Call to Arms, he moves on to Iceland/Germany to reveal the new 2 song EP from Árstíðir Lífsins. This trio creates a highly developed and all-encompassing sonic descent into old Norse history by way of pagan black metal. These 2 tracks are full of atmosphere, interesting musical changes and a ferocity that piles on the urgency in their compositions. 2024 is already proving to be another mighty year for all forms of metal.
