📖 1815. Port of Marseille. Lydia Neuville accompanies her father on an "educational" trip. This time, they leave for Corsica, an island of beauty, mysteries and game-filled scrubland. During the crossing, Lydia meets Lieutenant Orso Della Rebbia, who has just been demobilized after five years on the battlefields. He wants to settle down in a peaceful place on the continent to forget the horrors of war. In the meantime, he returns to his native country, two years after the death of his father, who was allegedly killed by a bandit named Agostini. Lydia, full of romantic ideas, quickly imagines that the handsome lieutenant carries "the weight of destiny" on his shoulders and convinces herself that he is returning home to take revenge. She decides to prevent the irremediable at all costs, especially since she is not insensitive to his charm... In Corsica, a young girl dressed in black comes to meet Orso. It is Colomba, his little sister, who despite her candor and innocent airs, has held the house alone since the father's disappearance. Unlike her brother, she is fiercely convinced that their father was murdered by their neighbors, who have been hated for centuries.
