Cómo llegar a la LAGUNA SHALLAP | Trekking desafiante en Huaraz | ¿Puedes caminar 22 km en 1 día?

How to get to Laguna Shallap in Huaraz? From the city of Huaraz, go to the PITEK bus stop (Av. Angelica Gamarra and Av. Antonio Raymondi). Buses depart from 7 am to 9 am. The driver waits for 10 passengers to board. The fare is S/20 (round trip). The trip from Huaraz to Pitek takes 40-50 minutes. The bus will drop you off at the start of the hike in PITEK and pick you up there. Return buses depart from 2 pm to 4 pm. Be mindful of your timing! I recommend leaving on the first bus at 7 am, so you can take a leisurely trip to the lagoon and enjoy the scenery up above, then descend at a leisurely pace and take the 4 pm bus back to Huaraz. Is the trek difficult? This hike is of moderate difficulty due to the distance, not the elevation gain. It's 11 km long, with gentle climbs and descents, and the elevation gain is 400 meters. The hike starts in Pitek at 3,860 meters above sea level, and the lagoon is at 4,260 meters above sea level. The climb took me almost four hours. The trail is marked, but the path is not signposted, so I recommend downloading a map on your phone to view it during the hike. Tourists often get lost crossing from one ravine to another, so be sure to cross the bridge at the Quichaycocha ravine and then head toward the Shallap ravine. The path can be intuitive, as you only have to enter the ravine. It's a rarely traveled route; that day, a Thursday, only three of us visited the lagoon. How much does it cost to enter the Shallap Lagoon? It's free. When is the best time to go? The best time to hike is during the dry season, from May to September, when the skies are clear and the lagoon is a spectacular turquoise color. What to bring on the hike? Water and energy snacks (1.5 liters, tangerines, bread with avocado) Bread for the dogs Sunscreen and hat Windproof or waterproof jacket (dress in layers) Good hiking shoes or boots Trekking poles (they helped me scare off the cows on this route) Trails for the first few days in Huaraz: Rataquenua and Pukaventana Viewpoints:    • MIRADOR RATAQUENUA Y MIRADOR PUKAVENTANA |...   Radian Lagoon:    • Cómo llegar a la LAGUNA RADIAN (Trekking e...   Wilcacocha Lagoon:    • Cómo llegar a la LAGUNA WILCACOCHA | Trekk...   Moderately difficult routes in Huaraz: Ahuak Lagoon:    • Cómo llegar a la LAGUNA AHUAC (4550 msnm) ...   Churup Lagoon:    • Cómo llegar a la LAGUNA CHURUP SIN TOUR | ...
