Understanding the Foster Youth Bill of Rights and the Youth Ombudsman’s Role

Ohio’s Youth Ombudsman hosted an hour long informational session on May 14, 2026, designed for educators and school professionals on the Foster Youth Bill of Rights and the role of the Youth Ombudsman in supporting students in foster care. Educators, school counselors, administrators, and other school personnel joined the Youth Ombudsman to explore effective ways to advocate for students in foster care, better understand the challenges they may face, and empower youth to advocate for themselves. This session highlighted practical strategies, resources from the Youth Ombudsman’s Educator Toolkit, and materials available through the Youth and Family Ombudsmen Office’s website. These tools are designed to help school professionals better understand ways they can support and advocate for youth in foster care while ensuring students feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout their educational journey.
