DAY 1 Gentling Our Wild Mustangs | Haltered in 36 Minutes

DAY 1 of our husband versus wife mustang gentling challenge is officially underway… and things moved faster than we expected. A couple weeks ago, we traveled to the Wind River Wild Horse Sanctuary in Wyoming after hearing about a few young fillies available for adoption from the White Mountain Herd Management Area. We spent time watching horses, talking through personalities, and eventually decided to bring TWO mustangs home. This is also Jason’s very first mustang he has ever personally adopted, which makes this whole journey even more exciting for us. These mares were adopted with the goal of gentling them, documenting the process, and eventually helping them transition into amazing forever homes. We know so many people dream of owning a mustang but feel intimidated by the first steps, so we hope this series helps show what these horses are capable of with patience, consistency, and good horsemanship. For this challenge, Jason will be working with one mustang and I will be working with the other. We will be sharing daily updates as we build trust and work through the gentling process together. On DAY 1, one of these girls accepted a halter in just 36 minutes… something we definitely did not expect this quickly. These mares are smart, sensitive, athletic, and still trying to figure out this whole domestic horse thing. Right now our biggest goal is helping them settle in, decompress, and realize they are safe. If you want to follow the progress of these mustangs and see how the husband versus wife challenge unfolds, make sure to subscribe and come along for the ride. As always — thank you for watching!
