Something Is Seriously Wrong With People?
Have you ever felt like something is off about modern society? Do people seem more scripted, performative, and robotic than they used to be? In this vlog, I explore a strange phenomenon that I have been noticing more and more in everyday life. From corporate workplaces to customer service interactions to casual conversations, many people seem to behave almost like NPCs rather than authentic human beings. As an unemployed ex Big Tech software engineer with 25 years of experience in the technology industry, I share personal observations about how people communicate today and compare it to my experiences from twenty years ago. Why do genuine conversations feel harder to find? Why do so many interactions seem superficial, repetitive, and emotionally detached? We dive into several possible explanations including social media algorithms, information bubbles, digital overstimulation, declining attention spans, corporate culture, workplace conditioning, and the growing meaning crisis affecting modern society. We also discuss how platforms like LinkedIn may encourage performative behavior and how constant exposure to curated online content may be shaping the way people think and interact. At the same time, I consider an important counterargument. Is society actually changing, or am I simply getting older and viewing the past through nostalgia tinted glasses? My wife certainly has some thoughts about that. If you are interested in topics like modern culture, technology, psychology, social media, corporate life, Big Tech, burnout, authenticity, loneliness, mental health, attention spans, AI, and the future of human connection, this conversation is for you. Let me know in the comments what you think. Are people becoming more authentic or less authentic? Do you notice NPC like behavior in everyday life? Or is this all just another middle aged guy overthinking things?
