Immerath - Wiebke Schnapper

In January 2018 the inhabitants of the village Immerath, western Germany, had to say goodbye to their Church of St. Lambertus known as ‘Immerather Dom’. As well as many other villages in that area, Immerath was destructed in order to expand the Garzweiler surface mine for brown coal. The demolition of the church stands representative for a whole village losing their home and existence. This cineseizure means to visualize the pain, by demolishing the footage as the church was. It aims to put focus on the very moment when a heritage monument, that took years to build, gets torn down in a few minutes. The original footage this cineseizure is made of merely lasted 10 seconds.
