Created in 1951, "Crusade in the Pacific" was an early television documentary that remains one of the most comprehensive looks at the Pacific Campaign on land, sea and air. In 24 separate 30 minute episodes, "Crusade" journals the War through tons and tons of basically uncensored stock footage, along with the timeless voice of Westbrook Van Voorhis. This episode of Crusade in the Pacific, entitled "Pacific in Eruption: looks at U.S. involvement in the the Pacific theater starting in 1933. It looks at Pearl Harbor, the Burma theater, the Battle of the Coral Sea, the Battle of Midway, the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, the dropping of the atomic bomb and the surrender of Japan. It also looks at the start of the Korean War. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
