Roberto ‘Pico’ Lopes gets HERO’S WELCOME after Cape Verde’s historic World Cup run

Roberto “Pico” Lopes received a hero’s welcome at Dublin Airport as the Cape Verde international returned to Ireland following the country's historic World Cup campaign. The Crumlin-born Shamrock Rovers defender played every minute for Cape Verde at the tournament as the World Cup debutants reached the knockout stages before their remarkable run came to an end against Argentina. Lopes was also the only Irish-born player to feature at the tournament. Family, friends and supporters gathered to welcome Pico home, chanting his name as he arrived back in Dublin. Lopes described the support and messages he received during Cape Verde's World Cup run as overwhelming.
