If you are considering buying silver—or investing in it—then today's news is crucial for you. On Monday, June 29, the silver market suffered a jolt that riveted the attention of investors worldwide. In the international market, the price of silver plummeted by nearly 3 percent in a single day; the spot silver price fell to $57.39 per troy ounce. At first glance, one might assume that with silver becoming so much cheaper globally, prices in India should have crashed as well. However, the situation is not that straightforward. Surprisingly, compared to the international market, silver in India is still selling at a premium of around ₹67,000 per kilogram. So, why is this the case? Is silver overpriced in India? Since one kilogram contains approximately 32.15 troy ounces, the calculated price in the international market works out to around ₹1.73 lakh per kilogram. Now, consider the situation in India: the price here is hovering around ₹2.40 lakh per kilogram. This represents a difference of approximately ₹67,000 per kilogram between the two markets.
