The Capacity Test – What the Heck is That? There Really is a Process and a Reason to do it!
You’ve checked the battery’s physical condition. You checked the open circuit voltage and the numbers look really good. Now, before you install the battery, do you know for sure whether or not it is airworthy? Maybe yes, maybe no!! The ONLY way to find out is to perform a capacity test! This will tell you whether or not the battery can provide the critical emergency power needed in the event of a complete electrical system failure when you are out there having a great time punching holes in the clouds. This is not the time or place to find out your battery is dead! You can’t pull over to change it at ten thousand feet. Now you will see how the capacity test is performed AND why it is so important.
