2022 Honda CRF250R vs 2022 Yamaha YZ250F Back to Back!

2022 Honda CRF250R and 2022 Yamaha YZ250F comparison time! Rode both bikes back to back on this old school GP track and did a lap time comparison too (CRF won). My thoughts on each bike.... 2022 YZ250F: (laptime 2:15.5) Strengths: Best in class low to mid and partial throttle torque feel feel with 2-stroke like quick throttle response. The YZ250F engine feels strong. The free GYTR Power Tuner app lets your make quick changes to the engine power character with your smart phone. KYB sets the bar for plush and controlled suspension that works for a wide range of rider weights, skills, and track conditions. Weaknesses: Ergos: footpegs feel a little forward and the seat to peg distance is tight for taller riders and the reverse head intake makes the radiator shrouds feel wide. The exhaust is loud. 2022 CRF250R: (laptime 2:11.6) Strengths: Best in class cornering and lightweight feel with almost 125 2-stroke like agility. The updated '22 engine is quick revving with a freer feel overall and now has decent low to mid torque to go along with the already strong top end power. Typical Honda ergos that just feel right. This bike is the definition of "Fun to Ride" Weaknesses: Showa forks not as plush as KYB. Thin hard seat. No free app to tune EFI mapping. The Bottom Line: Suspension plushness and low to mid roll on torque YZ250F holds the edge. 125 like agility, fun to ride, “just feel right” ergos, and impressive cornering with decent low to mid power and long pull CRF wins.
